Cooperations

Part of the mission of the Department of Tourism Studies of the University of Piraeus is to promote extroversion and cooperation with academic, research, social, and other entities for the development of tourism entrepreneurship and society. Since its establishment, the Department has developed and continually expands relationships and ties with third parties. A list of collaborations developed by the Department is presented below.

Since the summer of 2023, the Department has started cooperation with the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE), participating in the ACFE Anti-Fraud Education Partnership Program. ACFE is based in Austin, Texas (USA) and is the largest international anti-fraud organization with more than 75,000 members worldwide. The specific program facilitates the cooperating organizations to offer specialized training in the field of control, prevention and detection of fraud incidents. To achieve this goal, ACFE provides participating universities with high-quality educational materials, such as books, case studies, videos, and additional resources, which greatly assist the work of faculty.

Since December 2022, the Department has started cooperation with the Hellenic Association of Travel and Tourism Agencies in Greece (HATTA) and the Federation of Hellenic Associations of Travel and Tourism Agencies (FedHATTA) in areas of common interest, which, among other things, concern the provision research support, know-how, expertise and training in issues related to the statutory purposes of HATTA, the development of the Tourist and Travel Offices of the country, but also individual sectors of tourism and tourism development.

The Department of Tourism Studies of the University of Piraeus in October 2022 undertook the implementation of the first Observatory of Sustainable Tourism Development for the Region of Central Greece, in Lamia. It is a stable structure, now mandated by the World Tourism Organization, which will be a great tool, both for Tourism professionals to know the current situation at all times, through a continuous processing of quantitative flows, statistics and qualitative information , in order to adapt to the new data and to constantly upgrade their services, as well as for the mobility that has already been developed for new investments in the Region of Central Greece.

In July 2022, the University of Piraeus and the Department of Tourism Studies signed a Cooperation Protocol with the Hellenic Chamber of Hotels (XEE) in matters of research, training, and the exchange of know-how and expertise in matters related to the object of activity of the XEE and the Department.

Since April 2021, the Department has entered into a collaboration with the European Institute of Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe in matters of research, education and mobility by participating in the Academic Network of Cultural Routes.

The Department of Tourism Studies has a collaboration with the Council of Europe and its actions. For example, our Department implements the University’s collaboration with the Council of Europe’s University Network for Cultural Routes Studies. The Network aims to encourage research on issues related to Council of Europe Cultural Routes, to encourage students to undertake their own academic research on Cultural Routes.

Since October 2020, the Department of Tourism Studies has started cooperation with the Chamber of Cyclades in education issues.

From February 2020, and for the years 2020-2021, the Department entered into a partnership with the World Tourism Forum Lucerne (WTFL) and participated as an official member of the WTFL academic network. As a member of the network, the Department had the opportunity to collaborate at a research and educational level with other members of the network on issues related to sectors active in tourism.
